Tracking Shots
A tracking shot is a filmmaking technique where the camera moves alongside a moving subject or follows the subject as it moves through a scene.
What stages did I go through? To create my first tracking shot, one person in my team had to hold the camera steadily on another teammate as they walked. The camerawoman had to ensure that the camera remained focused on a specific part of the teammate that was being tracked/filmed, such as their feet or body. We divided the camerawork into two parts, where another person and I took tracking shots of our team.
Why did I choose this song and layout? After importing all the clips into Adobe Premiere Pro, I selected the ones with the best tracking shots and edited them together. I chose an instrumental track called Nobonoko by "Strawberry Cake", which gave my music video a more cute and cheerful vibe. To match the tone of the song, I used bright, colourful colours like pink and green for all the text in my music video, to enhance the overall cute aesthetic.
What could you improve on? To improve my tracking shots, I could move more slowly to make the camera movement look steadier and smoother. Planning my path ahead of time would also help me avoid getting too close to my classmate or accidentally bumping into them, as in some shots, I felt I was too close. In a professional setting, using a gimbal or stabiliser would further enhance the tracking shots.
