Whip Pan

What is a whip pan? A whip pan is when the camera pan creates streaks of motion blur left or right making the scene look like it's been taken in one take.

Some examples of the whip pan clips I used to make the final video:

What stages did you go through? We needed to create a short video that included clips with a blur effect at the end. This would help us create a seamless flow when combining all the clips together. To achieve the blur effect, we had to move the camera quickly. Moreover, we had to ensure that we had clips moving in opposite directions, such as up, down, left, and right.

Final video: Whip pan first experiment

What stages did I go through? To create my first whip-pan video, I had to combine all the short clips my team and I had created and edit them on Adobe Premiere Pro. I framed my camera to include the person I was shooting, and moved the camera left very fast, to ensure the clips had blur in them. I then had to move to a new location and frame my camera to an empty space and whip pan to the person very quickly. After that I imported all my clips into Premier and with the first shot I had to find where the blur is most visible and cut there and do the same with the clips. I spice all the clips together to ensure there is a seamless blur between the shots.

Why did I choose this layout and song? I chose this type of layout to make it appear like an ongoing sequence, that is repetitive and the same throughout like you can't escape from something. The song I chose is "Again & Again" by Bird and the Bee. I chose this song because I think it represented the theme of my video very well with its melancholy yet joyous tunes.

What would I improve on and why? To improve my video, I would suggest that my teammates do more movement to make the video more lively and include myself or other people in the video. I would also include titles at the end of the video to indicate who my teammates are and fade out the video and sound to make it end more seamlessly.
